January 2017 Cosmic Weather Forecast
Here in South Florida skies are sunny with occasional showers, temperatures in the mid-70’s, 60+ at night, and our little garden exhibits an array of flowering ground orchids, fiery heliconia, red and blue native wildflowers, marigolds galore, greens and herbs. Check out pix below!
This Thursday, January 12, 2017, we celebrate the post-Yule Full Moon, which occurs at 22º Cancer opposite the Sun and Pluto conjunct in Capricorn, with all three square Uranus in Aries and Jupiter in Libra.
This creates yet another iteration of the Grand Cardinal Cross which is the signature astrological aspect of this decade, and which has been synchronous with the ongoing global financial crisis, the intensifying global climate change crisis, the Fukushima nuclear meltdown, extreme weather events worldwide, multiple simmering wars in the Middle East, and a crisis of confidence in advanced Western countries that has led to the rise of right wing political movements in America, Europe and Japan.
This month’s Full Moon Grand Cardinal Cross exhibits a particularly powerful jolt of energy to the collective consciousness. The foundations of our civilization are being shaken, and the foundations of our sense of personal identity, safety and well-being are being shaken as well.
Daily news of multiple global crises playing out in countries all over the world has become our new normal.
The steady drumbeat of bad news over the last nine years has taken a toll on the mental health, emotional stability and physical well-being of people in America, and everywhere in the world.
People are increasingly stressed, paranoid and angry about the complexity, profundity and intractability of the problems facing our global human civilization in the early 21st century.
People are having trouble coping with this new normal.
Yet the pace of change, the intensity of political conflict, and the degree of emotional turmoil are set to increase dramatically in 2017. So say the political soothsayers, and so say the stars, as we shall soon relate.
Here in America we are at the threshold of a new political era as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take power on January 20, 2017.
President Trump will lead a totally energized Republican party prepared to take complete control of the White House, Congress and the Senate, Republicans also hold the vast majority of statehouses as well.
Yet as of today, January 10, President Trump’s approval rating is a mere 37%, a low level not seen in decades of Presidential transitions.
While Republicans prepare to totally transform every aspect of our national government from health care to economic policy, and from environmental protections to social services, from human rights and civil rights to military and intelligence services, much of the rest of the country sees the new Administration as an almost existential threat.
Many of the 63% of Americans who disapprove of Trump believe that Republicans will give giant tax cuts to the rich and to global corporations, cut social services, blow up international climate agreements, roll back EPA regulations and environmental protection laws, start a trade war with China, declare war on women, African-Americans, Latinos, unions, and Muslims, and engage in blood and iron political tactics that will disenfranchise millions and empower Republicans.
These same Americans are concerned that a Trump Presidency will result in irreparable damage to the global environment, the global economy, and American democracy.
“On December 5, over 2,300 people packed into the historic Riverside Church here in Manhattan to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Democracy Now! Speakers included Noam Chomsky, world-renowned political dissident, linguist, author, institute professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,” Organic Consumers reports.
"We now face threats are the most severe that have ever arisen in human history. They are literal threats to survival: nuclear war, environmental catastrophe. These are very urgent concerns," Chomsky said. "They cannot be delayed. They became more urgent on November 8th, for the reasons you know and that I mentioned. They have to be faced directly, and soon, if the human experiment is not to prove to be a disastrous failure.
So the decade long conflict we are seeing between plutocratic Pluto and populist Uranus is set to intensify dramatically this year in America.
The two political parties have zero common ground and the voters who support them are becoming increasingly paranoid, angry and susceptible to emotional manipulation, as is evident in the spread of “fake news” stories on the Internet and through social media.
This is a recipe for a crisis of confidence in the American political system that could eventually damage America’s ability to underwrite the consensus reality that sustains status quo global financial, trade and diplomatic systems.
And of course, this is a recipe for an increasingly high-stakes political conflict over the course of Donald Trump’s first year in office. Expect that conflict to play out in the streets, in Washington, in statehouses around the country, in major city governments, on TV and on the radio, on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+, on your phone and in your face.
In the face of this escalating, interlocking set of global and national crises over the last nine years, it’s not surprising that shell-shocked Americans have taken collective escape by consuming a tsunami of opioids, acted out their anger and fear in conflicts rooted in stark political and racial polarization, and participated in a marked coarsening of public discourse, online and in the “real world”.
Because Americans have so many guns, and it is so easy for criminals, terrorists and the mentally disturbed to obtain them, soaring stress levels have triggered a soaring rate of gun deaths, police shootings and mass murders.
“There were, on average, 16.4 such [mass] shootings a year from 2007 to 2013, compared with an average of 6.4 shootings annually from 2000 to 2006,” according to an article in The New York Times.
Since 2013 there have been over 200 school shootings in America, an average of nearly one per week.
Since 2013 we’ve seen many additional mass shootings including: Santa Barbara, Charleston, Chattanooga, Roseburg, Oregon, San Bernadino, Orlando and the Ft. Lauderdale Airport mass shooting this last week.
Despite the gorgeous weather here in Florida many are in mourning.
On Friday, January 6, 2017, Esteban Santiago, a mentally disturbed Iraqi War veteran, flew from his home in Anchorage, Alaska to Ft. Lauderdale. After landing, Santiago retrieved a 9 mm handgun from his luggage, loaded it up and proceeded to start shooting passengers at random in the baggage area.
Because the exit lanes from terminal gates leading to the baggage area in airports have no physical barriers and limited security, it was easy for terrified passengers to rush back into the main gate area from the scene of the shooting. But officials concluded that this reflux of fleeing passengers had compromised the security of the entire terminal. The entire airport was eventually put on lockdown.
Unfounded rumors of additional shooting led to a stampede out of the facility, creating a chaotic scene as security forces began attempting to screen and direct a flood of panicked passengers seeking safety.
Five people were killed, six others injured by the shooter, and an additional 36 people suffered injuries in the ensuing melee.
The shooter had turned himself in to the FBI in November 2016, complaining that he was hearing voices urging him to commit violent acts. He was screened at a mental health facility and released.
Numerous security flaws in baggage handling, airport design, and security procedures for dealing with emergencies have been revealed. Yet no easy solutions for these security issues have been suggested.
This Full Moon Grand Cardinal Cross emphatically reiterates the message that insecurity has become the new normal in America, and, indeed, around the world.
Our task this Full Moon is to absorb a flood of unsettling new information coming to light about global and personal crises and insecurities in every area of life so we can begin to imagine new solutions to our mounting problems.
There is good news this Full Moon, along with challenges.
Although we are still in the grip of the Grand Cardinal Cross, which is stress-testing existing large institutions of all kinds, and also stress-testing our own inner strength, balance and discernment, there are some very positive astrological aspects that can help us all to synthesize the flood of stressful new information we are currently receiving from the stars and from our connection with the collective consciousness of humanity.
Saturn in optimistic, highly energetic Sagittarius is sextile Jupiter in confident Libra, the cerebral administrator of the Zodiac. Jupiter in circumspect Libra is opposing revolutionary Uranus in Aries, which is and has been square plutocratic Pluto in Capricorn, the managerial Magus of the Zodiac.
Jupiter will oppose Uranus throughout much of 2017, which will amplify the deeply felt need for revolutionary change (Uranus) in the personal and social spheres, while also triggering potential conflicts with authority figures (Jupiter). So we can expect more, bigger outbursts of rebellious energy and intensifying conflict between agents of rebellion and the custodians of the status quo.
Saturn’s role in this unique combination of planets is to provide a new set of structures for the Uranian energies of revolution and renewal. This indicates that there is a positive, creative outlet for these highly charged energies and perhaps we will see the beginning of an outline for highly needed new social structures that could replace those currently reaching their sell-by date.
Saturn in one-pointed, strong willed, idealistic Sagittarius is also trine Uranus in Aries, lending support to those who seek to envision radical new solutions to existing social and personal failures or crises. Saturn trine Uranus will help to ground and structure the wild, rebellious energies of Uranus, enabling us to begin to imagine a new set of structures for our lives, and perhaps, even for the crisis-ridden social systems that appear so frail at the current moment in history.
This complex energy signature involving Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto will continue to reverberate throughout 2017. The theme and thoughtform for the year in some respects will be To Envision and Create the Seeds of a New Life on Earth – Then to Cast These Seeds to the Wind.
In our personal life and in our social relations, we are called upon to rise above the riptides of emotional negativity, the glamours cast through mass media and social media, and our own inner fears and insecurities.
We are called upon to focus on our own inner spiritual guidance, exercise constant discernment, and create a safe space for ourselves in which to create all manner of new ways of being in the world.
Now more than ever, in 2017, it’s important to take time to retreat from the hectic and electrifying pace of events in our world and to intensify our spiritual practices so we can maintain our balance, integrate the flood of new information we are taking in, and respond with intuitive imaginative breakthroughs that will help us to find a new, improved path forward in our lives.
Because there is so much conflict, confusion, deceit and misinformation clouding the collective consciousness at this time, it is very important for us all to practice psychic self-defense.
Jane has written an invaluable article entitled Psychic Self Defense: Learning Discernment and Compassion, which she wrote for those who, like her, must deal with the joys and sorrows of being empathic.
Jane offers simple, practical tips to rid yourself of toxic and unwanted energies, including instructions on working with crystals for protection.
For those of you who would like to explore the use of crystals and gemstones as tools to help in cleansing and clearing spaces and people of detrimental energies, emotions and thoughtforms, Jane’s article is a great starting place complete with a few very powerful, simple visualization techniques you can use in conjunction with your crystal allies to keep your mind, heart and aura pure and clear.
Over the years, one of the most common questions we are asked is “How can I use crystals for protection?” We hear this from physicians, nurses, corporate executives, massage therapists, energy workers, and many others who come into contact with negative emotions created by conflict in the workplace or in their home environment.
I usually start by referring people to Marcel Vogel’s Star of David Pendant. Marcel used crystals in healing sessions and taught crystal healing techniques to students around the world during the last decades of the Twentieth Century. Marcel designed the Star of David Pendant as a means of protecting himself from ambient negative energies during sessions and workshops, and as a tool to assist in crystal healing sessions.
You can read all about this in The Crystal Wisdom of Marcel Vogel, Vogel’s autobiography, which is available for the first time ever on our website, under arrangements made with Vogel’s family. The origins of the Star of David Pendant are discussed in Chapter Four.
Today the Star of David section of our website offers a couple of dozen varieties of the original Star of David pendant, including amethyst, rose quartz, smoky quartz, citrine, rutile, and so many more.
Jane and I affirm that you shall receive the energy, grace and guidance you require in pursuit of your spiritual and material goals this Full Moon week. Amidst the turmoil and the tragedies, the conflict and the glamours, there are moments of clarity to discover and visions to pursue.
While you’re considering the contents of your own personal metaphysician’s medicine bag, sit quietly for a few minutes this Full Moon and meditate upon the deep wisdom and love to be found in the following meditation on five steps of spiritual initiation, five tools from the toolkit of a true Magus of the Mystery Schools of the Universal Brotherhood.
Remember to Envision and Create the Seeds of a New Life on Earth – Then to Cast These Seeds to the Wind.
Meditation Moment: The Magician’s ToolKit by Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov
"The philosopher’s stone, the elixir of immortal life, the universal panacea, the magic mirror and the magic wand are five symbols of the work disciples have to accomplish to be worthy of receiving initiation.
When they change their selfish and petty thoughts and feelings into generous, disinterested ones, they are preparing the philosopher’s stone that transmutes base metals into gold.
When they regenerate the cells in their body by living a pure life, they are distilling the elixir of immortal life.
When they spread light and warmth around them, they are working with the universal panacea.
When they have learned to project themselves up to the most elevated regions of the spiritual world, they receive messages from space, and things and beings reflect in their soul as in a magic mirror.
Finally, when they have gained full mastery over themselves, they acquire the magic wand, which bestows all powers.”
