Mineralogical and Metaphysical Properties of Ocean Jasper
Jasper is a form of what mineralogists call "cryptocrystalline" quartz, known more commonly as "chalcedony".
Ocean Jasper is a rare form of jasper found only at the ocean's edge in Madagascar, and collectible only at low tide. Ocean Jasper occurs in an amazing variety of colors and shapes, often displaying colorful patterns resembling biomorphic forms, with stripes, circles, and mandalas. Many pieces display small surface indentations which contain colorful microcrystalline druzy clusters that add to their inherent beauty.
Jasper has been used in Native American and other shamanic traditions for millennia as a stone of protection and power. Jasper containing yellow has been used as a traveler's stone of protection, and to shield the bearer against loss of personal power. Jasper containing red has been used as a stone of protection during threatening times, and as a physical restorative.
Jasper containing white has been used as a Spirit stone, to connect with the Wisdom of Ancestors, Guides and Teachers.
Jasper containing orange has been used to increase personal magnetism and sexual energy, and as a protection against jealousy and envy.
Jasper containing blue has been used as a Stone of Speech, to facilitate the communication of Wisdom Teachings to others, as a stone of protection in crowds, to shield the bearer from negative collective thought forms and negative collective emotions within group endeavors and communities.
Jasper containing green has been used as a stone of protection to ward off evil spirits, and to bring joy to the heart in difficult times and trying situations.
