This polished 1.75" long Malachite Medicine Bag Stone, weighing 44 grams or 1.55 oz., displays an array of dark green swirls on a light green background.
Malachite is composed of around 60% copper, and is birthed through a complex process in which copper rich rock formations are bathed in water containing carbon dioxide or carbonate bearing minerals.
The swirling patterns characteristic of this green copper stone are created by the ebb and flow of the carbonated water surrounding the original rock formation.
Malachite was used in medieval Italy to ward off the evil eye. People wore malachite stones with prominent swirls resembling eyes, placed bracelets of malachite in their infants' cribs, and held the stone in their hands to promote peaceful sleep.
