Description

This oil stick drawing on paper was inspired by the death of my second husband. The weird sisters are the Fates of Greek mythology, said to spin the thread of your life from inception to death, when the third sister cuts the thread from the spinning wheel. Amidst the sorrow of a loved ones passing I acknowledge the continuation of the dance of life spinning around us all the time. The Fate in the front of the picture lifts her skirts as if to defy Death, whose figure lurks in the background behind the sister wielding the scythe. They all dance in celebration of the continuum of Life, Death and the party in between, when we are each blessed on our own paths from Divinity to earthly existence, and back again.

The detail below shows you the strokes of the oilsticks and the heavy texture, common to many of my early works. There the foot of one of the crones meets that of the Master of Death inside the circle of impermanence.
