Description
The Dolphin Psalm is a flight of fancy, seen in a light-hearted moment of dream -- two lovers are seen at play communing with those ancient, sentient creatures, one of my animal familiars -- the dolphins. Here the lovers are in their sacred circle surrounded by the powers of the six directions and the sun and moon. As they play music with their sacred friends, they invoke the power of the rainbow bridge connecting the higher worlds to the lower.
This series of magic lantern drawings that I made over the years was inspired by a technique many of us learned in kindergarten, playing with crayons and black paint. First drawing with colors, then covering with black and scratching through the surface to reveal the illumination beneath the darkness. This is a good metaphor for making art, for me, scratching below the surface, uncovering the luminous within the outer layers.
This piece is drawn with oil sticks on acid free Arches rag artist paper.
