In the wake of a giant, loving family reunion here in Boca, Jane and I are so grateful for our many blessings this winter season, especially our relationships with our relatives, our friends and our virtual community of spiritual seekers and practitioners! Thanks to all of you for being part of our lives!
There are two Full Moons in January this year, and we missed sending out a newsletter for the first one. Apologies for that. Jane and I have had a rough month. Both of us had some health issues. This enforced slowdown has prompted us to embrace a healthier diet and lifestyle.
Here in South Florida, we have experienced a generally warm, sunny winter season so far, punctuated by short sharp cold snaps. As you know, we've seen unseasonable dry weather on the West Coast and extreme cold in the Midwest and Northeast.
The jet stream has been deformed by the appearance of another resilient high pressure ridge in the Pacific Ocean, which has funneled a series of wet weather systems away from California and up into Alaska, where 40 inches of snow fell in 12 hours on December 7th.
Meanwhile, California is suffering an unprecedented winter fire season during what should be the rainy time of year. During the December SoCal fires, the worst in California history, relative humidities fell to 1% or less, so there was basically NO water vapor in the air at all. That's because SoCal has seen virtually no rain since February 2017. Follow the link for an in-depth look at California climate and weather patterns on our favorite Cali weather blog.
As of January 23, 2018, Abnormal dryness or drought are currently affecting approximately 38,606,000 people in California, which is about 67% of the state's population.

This Pacific ridge pattern, which was responsible for the intense multi-year California drought a couple of years ago, sends the jet stream into the far north of Canada, then down into the middle and Eastern US, creating exceptionally warm weather in California, and exceptional cold spells in the Midwest, Northeast, and all the way south to North Florida.
This weather pattern produces warmer, dry winters in South Florida, and for the most part we have stayed in shorts and T-shirts, with only one or two nights of sweater weather. Jane's harvest of greens and beans, herbs and spices, continues to amaze us. All the plants are beautiful and healthy, and we are sharing the bounty with friends, relatives and neighbors.
I'm sure after last year's extreme weather events all of us continue to be concerned about the short term and long term consequences of climate change, regardless of where we live. Jane and I think you'll benefit from taking a look at an amazing new educational website, The United States of Climate Change, brought to you by Weather.com. The website tells the story of how people in every state of the Union are reacting to climate change, state by state.
". . .This project will focus on telling stories," the Editors explain.
"Americans are already feeling the impacts of climate change. We’re feeling it in raised temperatures and unusual weather patterns, true, but also in things like a shifting economic landscape and coastal regions that seem to be altering by the moment."
"We’re going to tell a story for every state in the nation. We’re going to talk to people. We’re going to take pictures and shoot video and report. We’re going to investigate. We’re going to see how individuals, communities and businesses are responding to the changes that are already happening in America, and how they’re preparing for the changes that have yet to occur."
This is a great public service and based upon what we've read so far the quality of the journalism is excellent!
Cosmic Weather Forecast: Super Blue Leo Blood Moon Eclipse
The Super Blue Leo Blood Moon Eclipse occurs at 8:26 am Eastern time on Wednesday January 31st, 5:26 am Pacific Time.
Super Moons occur when the Full Moon appears at its closest point to the Earth during its regular orbit, about once every 14 months. The second Full Moon in a one month period is a Blue Moon, and these relatively rare celestial events occur about once every 2.7 years. When a full moon passes through the Earth's shadow, we have a total lunar eclipse, and the moon often casts a ruddy glow on the Earth below, so we call that a Blood Moon.
It's extremely unusual to have all three lunar events occur simultaneously. The last time we saw a Super Blue Blood Moon was way back in 1866. If you live on the West Coast of the United States this is your chance to view this cosmic weather event firsthand.
“Weather permitting, the West Coast, Alaska and Hawaii will have a spectacular view of totality from start to finish,” said NASA program executive Gordon Johnston in an official blog post.
“Eclipse viewing will be more challenging in the Eastern time zone,” Johnston said. “The eclipse begins at 5:51 a.m. ET, as the moon is about to set in the western sky, and the sky is getting lighter in the east.”
This Super Blue Leo Blood Moon Eclipse occurs at 11 degrees Leo, opposing the Sun and Venus in Aquarius.
Traditional astrologers say that lunar eclipses are all about endings and transformations. Our experience is that these eclipses are a great time to retreat from worldly concerns and focus on spiritual practices. Vedic and yogic tradition states that spiritual aspirants should not attempt to view the lunar eclipse, nor even go outside during the eclipse period, but rather focus on purifying spiritual practices throughout.
The choice is yours, to direct your gaze outward or inward. Whatever you choose to do, do it mindfully!
We are all being given a golden opportunity to focus on the spiritual meaning of the Leo Moon - Aquarius Sun opposition this week, and through this waking meditation we will find Guidance that will help enable us to maintain our equilibrium in these trying times.
Leo is all about Me. My Self. Self as Star, and the development of will forces within the personality. The quintessential egoistic personality.
Aquarius is all about Us. Our Group. Our Common Ground, and the development of Right Human Relations through the difficult practice of working in groups for common goals of vast importance.
Within individuals the Aquarian energy stream harmonizes with and activates the activity of Higher Mind and Higher Purpose, so that the limitations of the egoistic personality may be overcome and the deficiencies and bad habits of the egoistic self may be transformed.
The opposition of these two Cosmic Energy Signatures at the Full Moon this week prompts us to shine a spotlight on our own inner Lion and to simultaneously activate the Water-Bearer within.
Now is the time to re-examine how we harmonize our own needs, our own individual Higher Purpose, with the need to work with others on common goals.
Now is the time to look beyond our own narrow Leonine self-interest and understand how our own well-being is totally dependent upon right relations with others, and upon a host of Aquarian collective thought-forms, emotions and actions that dwarf our own individualities.
Examples of Aquarian collective energy fields include the hive mind of the stock markets; the ideological systems of political parties designed to induce conformity among their memberships; the ancestral blood karma that forms much of the collective consciousness of various races and ethnicities; the militant patriotism and incipient militarism exhibited by all types of nationalisms; the righteous intolerance and rigid moral systems inherited from antiquity typical of fundamentalist religious groups; the ingrained set of intellectual pre-conceptions and mental maps of the world formed by members of the highly segregated economic classes in our society; or the learned role playing that defines our gender and sexual identities at an early age.
We are asked at this Full Moon Festival to meditate upon the Web of Aquarian Social Connections that define our own identities, and to ask ourselves whether we are able to maintain our own individual Leonine Higher Purpose while working within the social parameters defined by the social groupings with which we identify.
We are asked to meditate deeply upon these collective energy fields and thought-forms that shape our consciousness, our personalities, and our day-to-day activities in all areas of life.
We are asked to ponder whether we are best served by participating uncritically in these collective energy fields or whether we must perhaps begin to break free from these inherited traits and behaviors and pre-conceptions in order to best be of service to humanity as a whole.
We are asked to question whether we are sufficiently aware of the needs of the Group, of Humanity as a whole, as we pursue our own personal path of Spirit and our own Higher Purpose, as best as we know how.
We are asked to remember the importance of manifesting the energy of Right Human Relations.
More than ever before in human history a Balance must be restored; between the individual and the group, between the rich and the poor; between male and female; between East and West; between North and South; between Christian and Moslem, and Jew and Hindu; between humanity and the Realms of Nature.
We are reminded that it is only through the Aquarian virtues of respect for others and selfless service for the good of the Whole that we will be able to restore the Balance that is required to serve as a Foundation for the creation of a new set of social, political, economic and spiritual relations for suffering Humanity and the health of our home planet, Earth.
My Inner Guides and Teachers have asked me to ask you all to meditate upon these concepts during this Full Moon weekend. They assure me that if any one of us asks to be given vivid examples, pictures, and demonstrations of these important Wisdom Teachings being energized by the Cosmic Energies of this month's Full Moon, the Universe stands ready to oblige.
Saturn in Capricorn
As we prepare for the Super Blue Leo Blood Moon Eclipse January 31st, we offer you a look at the current Cosmic Weather patterns that will shape our individual and collective consciousness in 2018, and we review some eerie astrological and historical parallels that indicate the potential for political and cultural transformations.
The first full moon of the New Year was a Super Moon at 11.38° Cancer occurring January 1, 2018 at 9:24 pm Eastern Time, opposed by the Sun at 11.38° Capricorn.
This Full Moon also featured Sun, Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, an unusual concentration of planets in the sign of the Goat, which was initiated by a relatively rare Winter Solstice event, when Sun and Saturn entered Capricorn more or less simultaneously.
Saturn in Capricorn sits on my Sun, and opposes Jane's Cancer Sun, and over the last month, Jane and I have responded to our chronic illness by eliminating a variety of bad habits. We have cut sugar, most carbs and most caffeine out of our diets. We intend to make this a permanent dietary change, and we are certain that this type of response to restrictive health issues is the correct response to the current super-Saturnine environment.
Capricorn is a grounding influence, so you can be sure that whatever lifestyle changes and emotional exchanges occur this month will be integrated into our nervous systems fully, and will continue to resonate throughout the coming year.
Saturn is now in the sign of its exaltation, Capricorn, and will remain there through early 2020. Three years from now Saturn will conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, on January 12, 2020, and the current Saturn cycle will reach a turbo-charged climax that is likely to trigger a major transformation in the way we relate to politics, money, and social inequality.

The last time Saturn passed through Capricorn was from February 1988 to February 1991.
George Bush Sr. was elected President in 1988, defeating Michael Dukakis, after an electrifying primary season in which Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition created hope among millions that the nation could rise above the regressive policies of the Reagan years.
In 1989, millions campaigned for democracy in China, and thousands were killed in Tiananmen Square. Over the decades to follow, Chinese leaders would implement capitalism with chinese communist characteristics and grow to become the 21st century's emerging superpower.
Mikhail Gorbachev had ascended to power in the Soviet Union in 1985, and initiated the reforms that would lead to uncontrollable political turmoil, symbolized by the dismantling of the Berlin Wall, which was completed in 1990. This marked the beginning of the collapse of the Soviet Empire. America was now regarded as the sole global superpower.
In November of 1990, Tim Berners-Lee published his formal proposal for the World Wide Web. a computerized eco-system that would use hypertext, web pages, browsers, and web servers to share documents and enable e-commerce through the emerging global Net.
Bush's Senior's Desert Storm war against Iraq after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait late in 1990 would be celebrated as a great victory in the United States, and initiated a decade of American triumphalism and "wars of choice" in Panama and the Balkans.
Bush Senior also presided over a severe American recession, and one of his first acts as President was to bail out America's ailing savings and loan industry, which was riddled with fraud. The New York Times would put the cost of the bailout at half a trillion dollars. Financial insecurity and ongoing financial scandals would plague Bush Sr. and result in his losing the White House to Bill Clinton in 1992.
By year end 1991, Gorbachev had resigned and the Soviet Empire had dissolved.
As Americans enter the 2018 election year, there's a lot to unpack in the Cosmic Weather patterns due to unfold over the next five to eight years. Will America's global empire prove to be as ossified and fragile as the Soviet Union under Gorbachev? Will our political system be completely transformed during the years to come?
America's Pluto Return
During the next decade, America will experience astrological events that indicate changes on a scale never before seen in this country.
Saturn in Capricorn conjuncts Pluto and Jupiter in 2020, the year of America's Pluto return. America is a Cancer nation, born July 4, 1776, with Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto will return to the same spot in the sky in 2020.
A Pluto transit indicates a transformative trip to the Underworld, where, like Persephone, one is stripped of every shred of identity, and forced into a completely new relationship to one's family and oneself.

For a nation, for an empire, the Pluto return signals a transformation of the political system and the end of existing power relationships, for good or ill.
Pluto in Capricorn represents the absolute dominance of financial and business interests in a society and the Pluto return signifies both the zenith of power for America's plutocracy and the beginning of a revolutionary transformation of society, similar in scope to the original American revolution.
No doubt that we live in interesting times!
Jane and I pray that you each receive the grace and guidance you need to manifest your spiritual and material goals this Full Moon and we send you Love and Light!
Meditation Moment: Remember, by Joy Harjo
Remember the sky that you were born under,
know each of the star’s stories.
Remember the moon, know who she is.
Remember the sun’s birth at dawn, that is the
strongest point of time. Remember sundown
and the giving away to night.
Remember your birth, how your mother struggled
to give you form and breath. You are evidence of
her life, and her mother’s, and hers.
Remember your father. He is your life, also.
Remember the earth whose skin you are:
red earth, black earth, yellow earth, white earth
brown earth, we are earth.
Remember the plants, trees, animal life who all have their
tribes, their families, their histories, too. Talk to them,
listen to them. They are alive poems.
Remember the wind. Remember her voice. She knows the
origin of this universe.
Remember you are all people and all people
are you.
Remember you are this universe and this
universe is you.
Remember all is in motion, is growing, is you.
Remember language comes from this.
Remember the dance language is, that life is.
Remember.
