Working with Quartz Crystals

“The crystal is a neutral object whose inner structure exhibits a state of perfection and balance,” according to crystal researcher Marcel Vogel, a senior scientist with IBM for 27 years. “When it's cut to the proper form and when the human mind enters into relationship with its structural perfection, the crystal emits a vibration which extends and amplifies the powers of the human mind. Like a laser, it radiates energy in a coherent, highly concentrated form, and this energy may be transmitted into objects or people at will.”

Quartz crystals found within the Earth are charged and attuned for a sacred purpose, equilibrating the Earth’s auric field, and acting as a bridge between Universal mind and the Earth’s native intelligence. Quartz crystals on the surface of the planet absorb energy from the sun and moon, and from lightning discharges in thunderstorms, so crystals found in the wild may be fully charged from these natural sources of energy.

Quartz crystals are very sensitive to ambient energy fields, and can pick up both energy and “information” from their environment. In the course of being mined, transported, and passed from hand to hand during their journey from their natural habitat to your home, crystals can and do pick up and retain both beneficial and detrimental energetic “information” in the form of human intent, human emotions and thought-forms generated in their environment. Often the crystals are handled by individuals who may not be aware of or who may not be respectful of their true nature, and in such cases, the crystals may be filled with “dirty” energy, detrimental emotions, base, egoistic intent and greedy thought forms incompatible with the energies of unconditional love and Higher Mind, the energies required of any successful healer and of any individual seeking to bond with a crystal for aid in meditation or other spiritual activities of any kind.

This is why quartz crystals should always be cleansed prior to use. Quartz crystals obtained at the SatyaCenter store have all been cleansed thoroughly here at Satya Center.

Crystals can be cleansed in a number of ways. We utilize specially prepared crystal and flower essence infused quintessences and pomanders from Aura Soma, our own specially prepared flower and crystal essences made from Jane’s garden, and Reiki energy to cleanse new crystals entering our premises. If we feel the crystals have absorbed substantial “dirty” energies, we place them in salt water for a period of time, then rinse them with clear water and proceed as above.

Then we place the crystals outside to absorb energy from the sun and moon and the earth itself for a period of time, usually from one to two days.

Crystal-lovers who are not Reiki practitioners can use other methods of cleansing and clearing crystals.

You can place the crystal in a bowl of salt water, then utilize the power of prayer to ask for cleansing and clearing, and place the crystal outside in the elements for a period of at least eight hours, preferably in full sun and moonlight. Place the bowl on the earth itself if possible.

Some crystal healers believe that crystals should never be placed in salt water, but we have had very good results with this method of cleansing and clearing. (You may want to perform a new “attunement” of your crystal to charge it and prepare it for your work after using salt water to clean the crystal. Methods of attunement are discussed in detail later in this article.)

Crystals absorb the energy contained within the bio-energetic field or aura, of the human being using the crystal, and then this energy can be focused, amplified and transmitted utilizing the power of breath and intent, along with specific techniques for transmitting Universal life force energy taught in various spiritual traditions, including shamanic traditions, Reiki healing traditions, yoga, t’ai chi and other energy disciplines.

If you know specific techniques to build up your life force energy, such as power breathing, breath of fire, or meditative techniques, utilize them to build up your internal energy.

Then hold the crystal between the thumb and forefinger of your right hand. Breathe in slowly through the nose to a count of ten if possible, and formulate the clear intent to bond with and to clear and cleanse your crystal ally.

Breathe out slowly and forcefully through the nose, onto the crystal's female end, and visualize your life force energy filling the crystal and expelling the energy previously held within it into the Earth itself, where it will be transmuted and recycled.

The female end of a crystal point or wand is the fatter end, and the female side of a crystal pendant is the fatter side, the side normally worn against the breast.
Repeat this process three times.

As you do this, thank the crystal for participating in your world and for taking its long journey to your home. Welcome the crystal to your home. Thank Grandmother Earth for this tremendous gift she has given you. Pray to the Divine, your spiritual guides, angels, teachers and the devas and nature spirits living in your vicinity to take part in this cleansing and clearing. Thank them for their participation.

An alternative method for cleansing crystals is to use a sage smudge stick or incense stick. Call upon your Spirit Guides and Teachers, the Divine Source of Creation, and any angels with whom you normally work, and light a candle at your altar. Ask for help in cleansing the crystal with whom you are now working. Light the smudge stick or incense stick.
Holding the crystal in your right hand, with the thumb on the female end and the right forefigner on the male end, place the crystal in the streaming smoke from your burning offering.

Say a prayer, such as, "I call upon the Divine Source of Creation and the Holy Spirit to cleanse this crystal of all unwanted energies that may have accumulated within it during the course of its travels from its home in the Earth to my altar here today."

After you have worked with the crystal for a while, you'll want to clean it again. You can use a sage smudge stick or incense and make a prayer like this one: "I call upon the Holy Spirit to cleanse this crystal of all unwanted energies accumulated during the course of my work with this crystal."

Once the crystal is cleared it can be “attuned” for the particular work you intend your quartz ally to perform.

To help with these workings, all the crystals we sell at the Satya Center store have been fully Reiki attuned. This means that these crystals have been synchronized to resonate with the Universal Source of life force energy, to continuously receive energy from that source, and to transmit that energy through the intent of the crystal’s holder. This insures that the crystals will remain “charged” with energy over time.

If you prefer to receive a “blank” crystal without a Reiki attunement just let us knowand we’ll be happy to send you a clean crystal without this additional energetic signature.

You can attune your crystals for a variety of tasks, and the Reiki attunement we have performed in advance for you will not interfere with your workings.

You can attune your crystal at home through your intent. Perform whatever practices and prayers will best enable you to enter a meditative, trance state. Holding the crystal in your right hand, with the female end at your palm and the point at your fingertips, breathe in slowly and evenly and deeply through your nose to a count of six or ten if possible, then breathe out slowly, evenly and deeply through your nose to the same count, bathing the female end of the crystal in your breath.

Repeat this breathing technique up to ten times as you formulate your intent.
Crystals can be “attuned” in this way to act as transmitters and receivers of thought-forms from mind to mind, to store and hold information obtained from the Akashic records, to receive messages from your spiritual guides and teachers, to radiate energies helpful in deepening your meditation practice, and to transmit healing energies to individuals, to groups and to the planet as a whole.

As you attune your crystal, be sure to call upon the Divine, your spiritual guides and teachers, any angels with whom you work and are connected, and the devas and nature spirits of the place where you live, to help you in this attunement.

After the attunement, thank Grandmother Earth, your crystal ally and all the spiritual beings who have helped you in your work and charge your crystal fully in the elements, as described above.

It is helpful to cleanse and recharge all crystals periodically, and especially after intense healing sessions with people who have serious physical, emotional, and mental maladies

Crystal Healing

Quartz crystals can be used in healings in a variety of ways, but there is one basic modality that all crystal healers know.
Energy healing with crystals operates in a similar fashion to energy healing using Reiki energy. The practitioner directs the Universal life force energy from the palm chakras into the aura and body of the individual receiving the treatment.

The Universal life force energy is an intelligent energy, and will flow through the recipient’s body and aura to the locations where energy blockages occur, slowly and gently releasing the trapped, detrimental energies held in these locations, and thus facilitating the free flow of energy necessary for health and vitality.

That said, it is important for the energy worker to become as conscious as possible of the recipient’s energetic systems and to direct energy consciously and directly to the various chakras and to the afflicted areas of the body and aura.

The use of a crystal is important for this kind of work because a crystal can amplify the Universal life force energy directed through the palm chakras of the energy worker.
This strong and focused flow of energy is more effective in breaking up energy blocks, and the strong flow of energy through the crystal can more quickly and easily fill the recipient’s body and aura with the amount of Universal life force energy necessary to maintain optimum physical, emotional and mental equilibrium.

To quote renowned scientist and energy healer Dr. Marcel Vogel, “The psychic healer has to deal with the emanations of his hand or his bioenergy field, which do not have the same levels of coherence one can obtain by using a crystal. The crystal works much the same way that a laser does: it takes scattered rays of energy and makes the energy field so coherent and unidirectional that a tremendous force is generated -- one that is much stronger than if the energies were allowed to be emitted without having come into coherence.”

Advanced practitioners sometimes practice “psychic surgery” with crystals, often using Vogel-cut crystals for this purpose.
“As psychics have pointed out, when a person becomes emotionally distressed, a weakness forms in his subtle energy body and disease may soon follow,” says Dr. Gerber, who is the author of A Practical Guide to Vibrational Medicine: Energy Healing and Spiritual Transformation

. “With a properly cut crystal, however, a healer can, like a surgeon cutting away a tumor, release negative patterns in the energy body, allowing the physical body to return to a state of wholeness.”

“An interesting revelation which can be made on the basis of this material is the fact that human beings are, to some extent, living crystals,” continues Dr. Gerber. “Certain aspects of the human energy system have the same transformational properties as natural quartz crystals."

"When one uses natural quartz crystals to heal the body, energy transference occurs partly because of a resonance effect between the quartz crystal and those cellular crystal systems with quartz-like properties."

Responsible Use of Crystals

Those who are attuned to the spiritual importance of naturally occurring crystals in nature, especially Native American medicine healers, have rightly pointed out that those who obtain crystals for their own personal use incur a vast responsibility.

Those crystals fulfill a purpose in nature. Crystals in naturally occurring rock formations help to maintain Earth’s energetic balance, and serve as gateways and focal points between Spirit and the material world.

Tampering with the balance of Nature by obtaining crystals for egoistic display and personal ornamentation alone can be detrimental to the Earth’s delicate balance, and could incur detrimental karma for the individual behaving so irresponsibly.

Crystals are powerful healing and meditation tools, to be sure, but they are also living beings, and should be treated with respect. Those who own crystals take on the responsibility to use their crystals for spiritual purposes and not for personal power.

It is our hope that this brief introduction to the history of human interaction with quartz crystals will prepare the reader to engage in a true spiritual dialogue with our mineral brothers and sisters, and with the cosmic forces they introduce to us.
