The Eye of Shiva is an organic gemstone is also known as Pacific Cat's Eye, and displays a characteristic dark spiral within a creamy background, that is said to resemble an eye, with the spiral pattern signifying the outpouring of energy from the Third Eye of Shiva, as well as being a metaphor for the Universal cycles of birth, life, death and rebirth which Lord Shiva regulates from the birth of the Cosmos to its termination.
The Eye of Shiva is made of a particular part of the shell of the Turban snail, known as the operculum, a secreted plate that serves to close the aperture of a gastropod mollusk's shell when the animal is retracted, and is composed of calcium carbonate.
The Shiva Shell is a calcerous doorway created to guard the opening of the Turban Snail's shell, and toward the end of the snail's life this plate detaches from the snail and falls to the bed of the body of water where the snail lives.
Shiva Shells are found on the bottoms of shallow tropical seas in Thailand and Indonesia.
In Eastern countries where Lord Shiva is venerated, the Shiva Shell is considered a stone of dreaming, a protective talisman against bad dreams and a powerful inductor of positive visions, both connected with the clairvoyant function of the Third Eye chakra, which is sacred to Lord Shiva.
